PDV Selects Ruan Pienaar As Springboks Goal Kicker

Peter De Villers announced that Ruan Pienaar would be responsible for the goal kicks when the lions tour South Africa.

Goal kicking was a real weakness of the Springboks when the Lions toured in 1997. So much so that the Springboks scored 9 tries to the lions 3. Ruan started the Super 14 as the goal kicker for the Sharks with Rory Kockott taking over the responsibility. One wonders who would replace Ruan Pienaar if he was to sustain an injury during the tour.

I believe that he can be a great goal kicker for the Springboks. However PDV can learn from history in this case and make sure he has a good replacement kicker if for some reason Ruan should not perform.
