The biggest discussion in South Africa has to be the debate over Ruan Pienaar and will he play at number 10 for the Springboks against the British & Irish Lions when they tour South Africa later this year. Ruan had a great performance on his Euro Trip and Coach PDV has suggested that he wants Ruan to stay at number 10.

Ruan Pienaar was taken into the Springbok squad as a utlity back and we have seen him at scrum half and on the wing for the boks. His normal position in his Super 14 team the Sharks is in the no 9 Jersey. However will he play scrumhalf again this year? The Sharks are really spoilt for choice with Ruan and Francois Steyn as both can play fly half. Francois had a shocker of a game against Australia when he played for the Baa Baa’s in London however dont write him off.

Pienaar has publicly stated that all he wants is to enjoy playing rugby and let the coaches and selectors decide where he should play. The Springboks will surley hope that he plays no 10 for the Sharks so that he can get more experience under his belt. Ruan is very young and from interviews i have seen and read it seems he needs the confidence that can only come with real game time experience in a position. Also he will only be the 3rd choice scrum half behind Fourie du Preez and Ricky Januarie. Another Luxurious problem for Springbok coach Mr PDV.
