Weekend Round-Up
Published May 29th, 2007 in .So another weekend of Rugby is behind us. Lets have a quick recap of what happened.
South Africa vs. England
South Africa managed to break all records by thumping England 58-10. John Smith the South African Captain said that his side was “Nowhere near their best”. I must agree with the S.A. skipper. A patch of about 20mins after the half time break the Spring Boks didn’t seem to be in the game. It was in this period of play that England Scored their only try. There is a saying “You are only as good as your opponent” this seemed to be the case for the Springboks. I have no doubt in my mind that if SA was playing a stronger English team their game and focus would have been a lot better. All in all well done Springboks. South African fans can now put the horror of the 53-3 defeat in 2002 behind them.
Wales vs. Australia
The Welsh team who had pretty much been written off by everyone but themselves came out fighting on Saturday. Whales lead by 23-22 with less than a minute to go. However in the last move of the game Australia managed to run a try to sneak away with the win. Whales earned a lot of respect from me this weekend with their gutsy performance and i look forward to the next test in Brisbane.
Argentina vs. Ireland.
A drop goal was the decider in Santa Fe.
The Irish seemed to be playing well when they racked up a 10 - 0 lead over the pumas. With just 3 mins left the Irish had the lead after a penalty from Duffy. In the last min of the game Argentina’s Contepomi put over a drop goal to deny the Irish victory. Well done Argentina. I think this game should make people more aware that Argentina should join the Tri nations.
